Senior Ergonomics Consultant

Rosie O’Halloran is a Certified Human Factors and Ergonomics Professional and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) practitioner with a strong allied health background. She brings over 35 years of experience in OHS, ergonomics, and occupational rehabilitation, working across a wide range of diverse, complex, and specialised industries.

Rosie has extensive expertise in risk and injury prevention, incident causation investigation, and the management of human factors risk. She applies a systems-thinking approach to develop and implement evidence-based, organisation-wide strategies, processes, tools, and training programs — with a particular focus on preventing musculoskeletal and psychosocial injuries.

A passionate advocate for good design, Rosie O’halloran emphasises the role of thoughtful, inclusive design in hazard mitigation, maximising health and usability, and facilitating universal access for all users. To complement her skills, she has recently completed a Diploma in Access Consulting.

Recognised for her practical, evidence-based approach, Rosie’s work is underpinned by a deep understanding of scientific disciplines including biomechanics, anthropometry, physiology, and psychology, alongside detailed knowledge of relevant legislation and industry standards. Rosie is committed to sharing her expertise through coaching and mentoring, teaching at university level, and presenting at health and safety forums and conferences.

Some of examples of Rosie’s work include:

  • Designing systems of work to reduce manual handling and occupational violence risk in a range of industries including manufacturing and construction, abattoirs, casinos, education sector, libraries, prisons, judicial centres, clinical settings and experimental laboratories
  • An extensive review of all Supreme Court of Victoria internal courtroom layouts in collaboration with a Heritage Victoria Architect to identify human factors design improvements to improve the health and safety of judicial staff
  • Advising on a broad range of vehicle /human interface design improvement features for Emergency services including Fire Services, Ambulance and Sheriff’s office
  • Creating and implementing human factors Design Standards for interior building design for large organisations including University of Melbourne and Court Services Victoria
  • Developing a comprehensive methodology for certifying building interiors with a Greenstar credit for ergonomics under the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) and applying this methodology to achieve GBCA certification of multiple buildings.
  • Lecturing and tutoring in Human factors and ergonomics subjects for Latrobe University final year Occupational Therapy students

Memberships, Societies and Associations

Outside work Rosie has a variety of interests including gardening, travel, gym classes, live music, walking her dog and catching up with family and friends. She played and coached netball at a competitive level for many years. She is an avid supporter of AFL and supports the mighty cats!
